56 String Movement

56 String Movement

The mural is 135 long and on average 11 feet tall. I started the mural just before winter 2008, stopped until the summer and finished September 2009. The project received a 2,500 grant from LMCC, donated paints from Golden Paints and some additional funds from Holiday Inn New York on 57th. The far left of the mural is land shaped like the body of an upright bass. When the strings go beyond the land they bend and stretch until coming to the head of the instrument, which is also a canoe.  All of the people in the mural lived or worked on that block of 56th street.
